About us

Vandora began as a list — the pieces we kept finding, one at a time, while trying to furnish our own home.

Every piece is chosen individually and described as honestly as we can manage — real dimensions, named materials, and no delivery promises we can't keep.

Our journey

We weren't trying to start a shop. We were trying to finish a living room.

We knew the look we wanted: warm, quiet, a little considered. Rooms that feel like someone lives in them rather than styled them for a photograph.

Travelling is what inspired us. A hotel lobby with lamps we stood under far longer than was polite. A guesthouse where every object in the room seemed to have a reason for being there. Market stalls where the good stuff was on the bottom shelf.

No one shop sold it. The pendant light came from one store, the stoneware vases from another, and the planter that finally worked took three weeks and a seller we'd never heard of. The pieces were out there — just spread thin across a dozen stores, poorly photographed, loosely described, and not always what arrived.

So we started writing things down. What was worth buying, what was worth buying again, and what had flattered itself in the listing. Before long the list covered more than one house. Friends asked for the link to the brass sconce, then for the whole document.

Vandora is that list, made into a shop. The same eye and the same standard, gathered in one place — so that finishing a room doesn't take six evenings and four checkouts.

What earns a place

It has to work in a real room. Not a set. We choose pieces that sit well beside things you already own, in the light you actually have — which usually means restrained shapes, honest materials, and finishes that age rather than chip.

It has to be worth what it costs. We're not interested in selling an ordinary object at a designer price because the photograph is flattering. If a piece is simple, we price it simply.

It has to be described honestly. Real dimensions in centimetres and inches. Materials named. Delivery estimates shown at checkout rather than promised in a banner. If something is smaller than it looks, we say so — we'd rather lose the sale than have it arrive wrong.

Where we are today

Lighting, ceramics, glass, planters, kitchen and storage, a few things for outside. It grows slowly and on purpose. Nothing goes up because a category looked thin.

We source the way we always have — from suppliers across the globe, most of them overseas. Each piece travels to you from the supplier we bought it from. That is part of why these pieces don't all turn up in the same shops, and it is why we are upfront about timing: delivery estimates are shown at checkout for every order, before you pay.

If you're furnishing a room and you're stuck on one piece, write to us. That is genuinely how this started.
